"Cowgirls: Women of Western Art"
"Cowgirls: Women of Western Art" is a feature documentary celebrating the remarkable female Western artists who are creating powerful, authentic work while transforming how we see the American West. Rather than focusing on historical exclusion, we're showcasing the incredible talent, commercial success, and cultural impact of contemporary "cowgirl" artists who are redefining Western art.
Concept Overview
The Story We're Telling
This film follows 18 living female Western artists across the American West - from Texas ranches to Colorado studios to Santa Fe galleries - revealing how their exceptional work captures authentic Western experiences often overlooked in traditional Western art. We're documenting artists like Gladys Roldan-de-Moras, Terri Kelly Moyers, Veryl Goodnight, and Felice House, whose diverse perspectives and backgrounds are enriching the Western art tradition.
Why This Matters
Western art has historically been dominated by male perspectives, but these women artists are creating a more complete, authentic narrative of the American West. Many of our featured artists come from Latino, Native American, and other diverse backgrounds, bringing rich cultural perspectives that have been underrepresented in Western art institutions.

Where We Are Now
We've completed principal photography with over 50 interviews featuring extraordinary female Western artists, museum curators, gallery owners, and art historians across the American West. Now in post-production, we're bringing these powerful stories to life through editing, music, and finishing work that will showcase these artists and their work in the most compelling way possible.
Why Your Support Matters
This film will premiere at major film festivals in 2026-2027, followed by museum exhibitions, educational distribution, and streaming platforms—bringing these remarkable artists to audiences who might never visit a Western art gallery. Your contribution helps ensure that diverse artistic voices are celebrated, preserved, and amplified for current and future generations.
